Eat Better Start Better Guidance & Menu Planning for Early Years Settings

Introduction:

Early years settings provide an excellent opportunity for children start their eating journey correctly and ensure a varied diet is established early. Forming good eating habits at a young age will lay the foundations for children to make correct food choices as they progress into their school years.

The topics we will touch upon include:

  • The Eat Better Start Better Guide and why has been developed
  • Encouraging children to eat well
  • Menu planning and snack guidance
  • Navigating the menu planning checklist

The training will help you to:

  • Gain a greater understanding of the revised (2017) Voluntary Food and Drink Guidelines for Early Years Settings in England.
  • Meet Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirement for the provision of healthy, balanced and nutritious food and drink.
  • Plan menus and snacks to meet the nutritional requirements of young children in your care.
  • Understand the revised menu checklist criteria and meet the Voluntary Food and Drink standards detailed in the Eat better Start Better guidance.

Introduction:

To provide knowledge and Information on Oral Health to childminders in order to deliver the best outcomes for children and their families.

The training will help you to:

  • Signpost children and families to local NHS Dentists to access early dental care and prevention
  • Integrate Oral Health promotion within your practice and promote Sugar Smart initiatives
  • Acquire consistent evidence based oral health information in order to inform children and their families

Childminder Training: Supporting Healthy Social and Emotional Development

Introduction:

Social and emotional development are key building blocks for future success in life and impact later learning, achievement and wellbeing.  This workshop will consider what childminders can do to support this vital area of development.

Outcomes:

  • To review social and emotional development within the EYFS and developmental milestones
  • To explore what is important in social and emotional development and wellbeing
  • To reflect upon how routines and the environment can support social and emotional development
  • To take away practical ideas for activities to support social and emotional development
  • To be able to recognise children who are struggling in their social and emotional development and have strategies for supporting them
