Youth Gaming and Gambling Harm Prevention – Online Training

The Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) is a national charity with a social purpose to inform, educate, safeguard and build digital resilience amongst those who work with young people, helping them to make informed decisions and understand the consequences around gambling and gaming.

Their training is free of charge and fully accredited by City and Guilds as are their resources which have been designed to be enable teachers and support staff to have purposeful conversations with young people and support them in understanding the consequence of their actions and the potential risks. There are over 450 resources which are all aligned to the PSHE and RSE Curriculum for KS2 to KS5. For each year group there is a full scheme of work and 6 ‘ready to go’ lesson plans, accompanied by PowerPoints, infographics and challenge activities, allowing for one off sessions or a long term learning programme. These would be ideal for PSHE Coordinators and DSLs.

The training is delivered over 2 parts – part 1 one, a 90 minute webinar can be booked here: https://www.ygam.org/book-a-workshop/ After this, attendees will be sent a link to book onto a shorter follow up session that will provide access to all the resources along with a digital certificate from City & Guilds to evidence their CPD.

They can also schedule bespoke workshops to train all your staff: If you would like to arrange this for an inset day or across a couple of twilights, please email: sandythompson@ygam.org, Telephone: 07494 964888

LOUD! Network KS2 lessons: ‘Job skills, influences and goals’

Children’s perceptions about careers are embedded from a young age so it is important to begin careers education at primary school.

The PSHE Association has worked with the LOUD! Network to produce new KS2 lessons on ‘job skills and ‘influences and goals’ to support you in this task. These materials are free to download from The Primary Careers Resources Platform and are designed to expand pupils’ understanding of the work that adults do and the links between understanding themselves, their interests and their strengths. The lessons also support the promotion of leadership, teamwork, decision-making and problem solving.

The resource includes two comprehensive lesson plans for year 5 and 6 pupils with supporting classroom materials, including an accompanying LOUD! Network film for each lesson. Adaptation guides and materials for year 3 and 4 pupils are also featured.

The lessons will help pupils to:

  • Identify a range of jobs, as well as the skills and experience needed to carry them out
  • Recognise their personal qualities and strengths (and the role they play in setting goals for the future)
  • Practise effective goal setting, including describing the steps and challenges to achieving goals.

Online Safety Toolkit

ThinkUKnow’s new toolkit of short activities will help you to:

  • develop children and young people’s knowledge and skills
  • keep conversations going about safety while gaming online, developing online friendships, and sharing images.

Based on their successful #OnlineSafetyatHome packs, their toolkit activities are designed to be delivered in an education setting with children and young people aged:

  • 5 to 7
  • 8 to 10
