Prevent Education Officer
Prevent is part of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy and aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Prevent works at the pre-criminal stage by using early intervention to encourage individuals and communities to challenge extremist and terrorist ideology and behaviour. The Prevent Strategy makes clear the important role that schools have to play in achieving these aims. It is an extension of the same safeguarding processes which the education sector already employs in order to effectively safeguard children from drugs, gang violence, alcohol abuse, and other forms of harm and crime. One of the key objectives of the Prevent Strategy is to provide practical help in order to safeguard vulnerable people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure that they are given appropriate advice and support. It is important that people, particularly frontline staff, know how to identify people at risk of radicalisation or extremism and the safeguarding pathways they should use.
The Prevent teams are able to provide schools and colleges with support and advice to assist them in meeting the legal requirements of the Prevent duty and other safeguarding legislation. They are also able to deliver a free 90-minute Prevent awareness training session to education providers, this includes details of how to identify people potentially at risk of radicalisation and also the Channel process.

All Provision Summary:
MindUP an evidence-based, whole school social and emotional learning programme trained and supported by expert MindUP consultants. MindUP is a framework of 15 lessons across 4 units, taught from EYFS to Y8.
Lessons take the children on a journey from Me to We to Others, improving emotional self regulation and focus for learning. Research shows that MindUP helps reduce stress, improves attention and supports a positive optimistic mindset.
MindUP fosters a Mindful culture where respect, tolerance and compassion are cultivated. These are life long skills that support Mental health and wellbeing.
Target Group: Early Years, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools KS3 and includes Parent sessions.
