Provision Summary:
Edible Playgrounds transform school grounds into vibrant outdoor teaching gardens that inspire hands-on learning and get children excited about growing and eating healthy food. They help improve health and wellbeing, open up access to nature, and provide a fun outdoor learning environment that supports cross-curriculum teaching.

The Edible Playgrounds programme offers a comprehensive service comprising engagement of the whole school community, design, build, planting with pupils, teacher training, and planning support throughout the academic year. The uniqueness and value of the programme lies in embedding food-growing into the school curriculum across all subjects so that teachers learn to teach through gardening, not to become gardeners themselves. This approach builds teachers’ skills and confidence to use their Edible Playground in fresh, innovative ways as an outdoor teaching resource.

Target Group: Primary School / Secondary School

Cost implication for the school: A typical Edible Playground project costs £30,000 with schools asked to make a contribution of no more than £5,000 plus VAT. Trees for Cities will meet the remaining cost through our corporate funders. We can advise you on where best to access specific grants and funding.

Provision Summary:
The Alcohol and Drug Education and Prevention Information Service (ADEPIS) is a platform for sharing information and resources on alcohol and drug education and prevention for schools and practitioners. Mentor-ADEPIS is publicly acknowledged as the leading source of evidence-based information and tools for alcohol and drug education and prevention. The resources we have already produced draw on eight years of work with the Drug Education Forum, which supported local authorities and schools to implement best practice in alcohol and drug education.

Our resources are free and suitable for both primary and secondary schools as well as practitioners working on alcohol and drug education and prevention in informal and community settings. Among the resources we have produced there are toolkits and guidance documents, briefing papers, lesson plans, research and links signposting to useful organisations, services and resources available.

To access Mentor-ADEPIS resources and see details of upcoming teacher training seminars, visit mentor-adepis.org.

We also offer training and consultancy services for schools and practitioners as part of a Quality Mark offer for effective and evidence based alcohol and drug education.
